Map 1: The Route and the Battles.
As you can see on the map the original plan was not to attack Constantinople, but it was to go reclaim the holy land (which is shown on the purple line). They started in Venice where they traveled by boat to Zara where they siege Zara. In this siege There was a estimate of 10,000 crusaders and 10,000 veteran crusaders. Since there was so many men there was 210 boats used.
Then carrying on with there journey they stopped several times for resources and more crusaders to join. and then they finally reached Constantinople. Although the battle was quite large it is unknown how many people died n the battle. The only accurate information given was that it started on April 8th 1204 and finished 5 days later.
This Map shows the battles and the future results. Due to the crusaders raiding Constantinople and claiming it ,it would cause a havoc for the byzantine empire and lead it too its end. In doing so it gave the church a more closer area to the holy land to guard and made it easier for the next crusades.
